Cyber Desk · Insight. Series: Digital disputes, as Indian courts actually see them.

UPI mandate silently renewed is a billing fact pattern — forum choice still matters.

A user cancels a subscription in the app. The UPI mandate renews anyway. The debit hits again. The complaint is obvious: unauthorised charge, failed cancellation, defective service. But the file still has to answer where that complaint is heard — consumer forum, civil court, or the arbitration clause buried in checkout. A silent renewal is a billing fact. It does not automatically pick the forum. The mandate trail, the cancel click, and the terms accepted at sign-up still decide the path.

Cancel in the app.

Forum choice is still in the file.
