Cyber Desk · Insight. Series: Digital disputes, as Indian courts actually see them.

Training data taken from a gated dataset under a ‘research’ banner can still face access and contract fights.

A startup scrapes or downloads a competitor’s login-walled corpus and trains on it. The deck says research, fair use, academic spirit. The login wall, terms of access, and how credentials or sessions were used still have to be answered. Gated data is not free air because the output is a model. Access, contract, and confidential-information questions attach to the intake — not only to what the model later says.

‘Research’ on the slide.

The gate and the contract still matter.
