Cyber Desk · Insight. Series: Digital disputes, as Indian courts actually see them.

Ephemeral ‘view once’ media can still exist on someone else’s screen recording.

A view-once photo appears in the opponent’s gallery dump. Disappearing UX is a sender-side promise about the app’s normal path — not a guarantee that no residual copy exists on another device. Screen recording, screenshots, forwarded saves, and forensic images can outlive the “view once” label. Courts ask what file was recovered, from whose device, and how it got there — not whether the chat bubble said it would vanish.

View once on the UI.

Residual copy can still land in the dump.
