Cyber Desk · Insight. Series: Digital disputes, as Indian courts actually see them.

Publishing a minor’s identity online ‘for justice’ can create a new legal problem.

A viral thread names a child “so the public knows.” Outrage does not rewrite statutory protections around identity. Courts and statutes treat naming, school details, and identifying particulars of minors as high-risk publication — not community journalism with a moral filter. Digital permanence makes the mistake harder to unwind than a print correction. Seeking accountability is one duty. Exposing a protected identity is another — and it can become its own dispute.

Viral ‘justice’.

Still check identity law first.
