Cyber Desk · Insight. Series: Digital disputes, as Indian courts actually see them.

A registrar WHOIS privacy layer is not a finding that the domain is legitimate.

Anonymised WHOIS frustrates a brand owner — and then someone concludes the domain must be fine because the registry “protects privacy.” Privacy proxies are product features, not authenticity certificates. Legitimacy still turns on registration facts, use, notices, and what disclosure tools actually produce under process. Treat privacy WHOIS as a disclosure obstacle to work through — not as proof the name is clean.

Private WHOIS.

Not a clean bill of legitimacy.
