A deepfake used as a joke in a private group can still become a publication fact if it escapes.

Someone swaps a colleague’s face into a clip for laughs in an alumni WhatsApp group. Private chat, inside joke, no malice claimed. Then a member forwards it. It lands on another platform. It circulates outside the group boundary. The file is no longer only about intent inside the chat. Publication is a spread fact — who sent it, where it travelled, who saw it after the forward. A joke origin does not erase the trail once the clip leaves the room.

Private group joke.

Forward once — publication still has to be mapped.
