ISP subscriber logs help investigations. Retention fights are policy — production fights are case law.
An old IP lookup lands. The ISP says the logs are purged. One fight is how long carriers must keep subscriber data — that is often statute and policy. Another fight is whether what still exists must be produced under a lawful ask — that is the case file. Mixing them into “ISPs never help” or “ISPs always have it” skips both doors.
