Chargeback won. Criminal complaint still open. Those are not the same finish line

4 August 2026 · Series — Digital Disputes

Chargeback won.

Criminal complaint still open.

Those are not the same finish line.

A bank may reverse a UPI or card debit and close the dispute ticket. That is a payment-rail outcome. An FIR is a criminal process. One can finish while the other is still alive. Winning money back does not automatically extinguish the offence case — and losing a chargeback does not, by itself, prove the crime either.

Bank dispute closed.

Criminal file not decided.
